A STUDY OF CONVECTIVE HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER FROM CIRCULAR CYLINDERS EXPOSED TO A JET FLOW
Abstract
This paper presents the results of an experimental study
on the flow field and mass transfer behaviour of a two
dimensional free air jet impinging on a circular cylinder. Flow
field measurements were carried out with and without the
cylinder in the flow for one jet exit Reynolds number (Re
=1.778×105). Two types of mass transfer measurements were made (i) circumferential with 10° increments and (ii) forward stagnation point. These measurements were made as a function
of the ratio of the distance between the jet exit and the cylinder surface (L) to the nozzle height (D) (L/D: 2 to 10), the ratio of the cylinder diameter (d) to the nozzle height (d/D: 2.223 to 10), jet exit Reynolds number (Re=7.77×104 to 1.778×105), and jet impact angle (φ: 40° to 90° ) (only in case of the circumferential measurements). It is believed that the results will contribute to the understanding of impinging jet flow systems.
