Abstract

The paper addresses some aspects of the entropy production in the conduction-controlled thermal Stefan problems. The influence of the moving solid-liquid interface on the time dependence of the entropy production rates in each phase, as well as on the overall rate of entropy production is examined. Several processes for which the entropy production is monotonically decreasing in time are pointed out. Our analysis indicates that the theorem of the minimal steady state entropy production can be violated, when the heat conduction is accompanied by the phase change.
