Abstract

The pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of inclined finned tube bundles are determined experimentally. Different bundles are tested at various angles of inclination. The flow patterns after the bundles are analyzed theoretically and the results are compared to experimental measurements. It is found that the predictions for the increase in total pressure loss coefficient and the outlet velocity distribution are in good agreement with experimental results for angles of inclination as small as 30°. The heat transfer rate is observed to decrease for flow through inclined bundles consisting of radially finned tubes, while it increases in the case of inclined plate finned tube bundles.
