Abstract

The mean beam lengths of a radiating gas volume, enclosed by rectangular parallelepiped walls, were calculated with respect to each of its adjacent surrounding surfaces. The dimensions of the volume vary in a wide range, so that the results are useful for practically all interesting sizes of rectangular parallelepipeds, including cubic zones. The values of the absorption coefficients were chosen between zero and five. That means, that also luminous gas atmospheres of coal fired flames can be considered. The mathematical procedure of the analytical reduction of the gas-to-surface exchange integral to a lower order one is described. The following numerical method of solving the lower order integral is shown. The results are presented in a dimensionless form both graphically and by approximate equation.
