THE LEIDENFROST PHENOMENON FOR BINARY LIQUID SOLUTIONS
Abstract
Film boiling of discontinuous liquid masses on a flat plate was studied for ethanol-water,
ethanol-benzene, and benzene-toluene solutions over the complete composition ranges. Initial
liquid volumes ranged from 0.006 to 8 cm3 , and plate surface temperatures were varied from 150 to
450°C. All tests were made in the atmosphere.
Total evaporation times for the masses were measured. The Leidenfrost point and the smallest liquid volume for which vapor bubbles break through the mass were determined. Liquid composition changes during evaporation were measured for the ethanol-benzene and benzene-toluene solutions.
