Abstract

An examination is made of the problem of a water jet melting a hole in a block of ice. In this study a numerical simulation technique is described and the results given by it are compared with experimental observations. The results for the shape of the cavity formed and the rate of penetration into the ice show that numerical simulations can be performed for some regions of the flow.
