Abstract

Boiling heat transfer of a mixture of Freon-11 and Freon-113 was examined at forced flow normal to an electrically heated horizontal cylinder. The heated copper cylinder was mounted in a stainless steel channel. The nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient was evaluated from the mean heat flux and the mean wall superheat. Measurements were made at various velocities, various degrees of subcooling, and various compositions of the liquid mixture including the pure components. In each case the fully developed nucleate boiling region, the single phase heat transfer region, and the transition region in between was examined.
