NATURAL CONVECTION FLOW DUE TO LINE THERMAL SOURCES ON A VERTICAL ADIABATIC SURFACE
Abstract
An experimental study of the natural convection flow arising from line thermal sources on a vertical surface has been carried out. The downstream variation of the surface temperature and of the temperature distribution in the flow is studied in detail. The dependence of the thermal field on the energy input and on the location of the sources is determined. The effect of the existence of a second source on the temperature distribution above an isolated source is also considered. The results obtained indicate that the temperature field depends very strongly on the distance between the sources. The surface temperature variation indicates the expected decay downstream of a given source, followed by a sharp rise as another source located downstream is approached Several other interesting and important features, which indicate the basic nature of the flow, are observed.
