CONDENSATION OF BINARY MIXTURES OF VAPOURS OF IMMISCIBLE LIQUIDS WITH CHANNELLING FLOW OF THE CONDENSATE
Abstract
Of the three 'ideal' types of two-phase condensate
pattern observed during the condensation
of vapours of immiscible liquids 'channelling
flow' is the most likely one to be encountered in
industrial equipment. Visual observations of
channelling flow encountered during the condensation
of heptane/water mixtures on a vertical brass
cylinder are reported. A relationship for the
determination of heat-transfer coefficient associated
with such a condensate pattern is derived.
This relationship is then compared with heat transfer
data associated with the condensation of
heptane/water mixtures on a vertical surface, and
of toluene/water and trichloroethylene/water mixtures
on a horizontal copper tube.
