Abstract

The main elements of the Finding Isothermal Surfaces (FITS) are the following ones :
a/ the coordinate system and the independent variables are so chosen, that the isothermes would not move and the space coordinate oriented to the direction of the movement becomes the dependent variable.
b/ the isothermal surfaces are approximated by polynomials, which satisfy the by finite differences approximated differential equation exactly on the boundary streamlines, and with the least mean square on the other ones. The usage of the method is practical in cases if the equations of the isothermal surfaces may be inverted; the temperature is steady; boundary conditions refer to isothermal surfaces.
The method is demonstrated on the continuous casting of cylindrical ingots.
