Abstract

The transport processes in the contact line region of a stationary evaporating "two-component" thin film were studied experimentally. Thermocouples were used to obtain the integral value of the evaporation rate. A scanning microphotometer was used to measure the response of the film profile to changes in the evaporation rate. The results demonstrate that the transport processes in a decane film were significantly altered by the addition of 2% by weight of tetradecane. The use of this additional variable in devices that rely on evaporation from a thin stationary film should lead to improved control and performance.
