Abstract

Laminar and turbulent heat transfer coefficients of polymer solutions have been studied. Turbulent heat transfer and friction coefficients as well as mean and fluctuating velocity profiles have been measured simultaneously. Measurements show that reduction of the transversal fluctuating velocity Dear wall leads to an essential change in the velocity profile in the buffer zone of the flow and to the increase of dimensions of this region. The increase of thermal resistance in the buffer zone appears to be the main cause of the turbulent heat transfer reduction in the viscoelastic fluids with not great Prandtl numbers.
