NOISE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES AS APPLIED TO NUCLEATE POOL BOILING
Abstract
Power spectral density and correlation function measurements are used to study nucleate pool boiling. The experimental method consists of analyzing the intensity fluctuations registered by a photo-multiplier tube which measures the attenuation of a light beam by bubbles.
This new experimental method yields values of 22.75 cms/sec. for velocity, and 7.5 mm. for diameter, with nitrogen gas bubbles in water at ambient temperature and pressure. Several nucleate pool boiling experiments were conducted with nichrome ribbons to investigate the effect of heat flux, degree of subcooling, and surface tension.
