FLOW VISUALIZATION AND LAMINAR HEAT TRANSFER IN ROTATING CURVED SQUARE CHANNELS
摘要
Smoke visualization results for secondary flow
phenomena are presented to study the destabilizing effects
of Coriolis forces on fully developed laminar flow in
rotating curved square channels (cross section = 5.08
× 5.08 cm2, radius of curvature Rc = 25.4 cm) at Reynolds number Re = 1,000 and rotating speeds in the range n = 17 ~ 332 rpm for both positive and negative rotations. Numerical results for secondary flow pattern, and friction factor and Nusselt number distributions along
the wall are also presented for laminar forced convection
heat transfer in rotating curved square channels for
comparison. This study clarifies the basic flow
characteristics regarding the interaction of the effect of
rotation with centrifugal and viscous effects. The results
are useful in assessing the validity of such assumptions as
steady flow, flow symmetry and the transition from
laminar to turbulent flow in laminar forced convection
heat transfer analysis in rotating curved square channels.
