EFFECT OF ACOUSTIC EXCITATION ON HEAT TRANSFER FROM CIRCULAR CYLINDERS IN CROSSFLOW
摘要
The effect of the acoustic excitation on both the local and overall heat transfer rates were determined. The diameters of the test cylinders ranged from 38 mm to 76 mm. The direction of acoustic excitation was normal both to the axis of the cylinders and to the cross-flow. Plane sound waves were employed and the cylinder was positioned such that its spanwise axis coincided with the displacement antinodes of the sound waves. Tests were conducted for a Reynolds number range from 3000 to 80000; at values of the sound frequencies ranging from 200 to 1500 Hz and sound pressure level from 110 dB to 135 dB. The results indicate that the enhancement in heat transfer occurs over a narrow range of Reynolds number and that the applied sound waves cause the heat transfer coefficients to increase appreciably on the back half of the cylinders.
